The journey of people with developmental motor disabilities

Introduction

Transitions to Adulthood is a research study carried out by a research team at the University of Alberta. We wanted to find out how well people with developmental motor disabilities are doing as young adults compared to those without disabilities.

People who grew up with motor disabilities like cerebral palsy and spina bifida often received a lot of help when they were children, but less as they got older. We wanted to know what services or people have helped these young people as they became adults.

Young adults in the study shared their experiences in many different areas:

This information will help other families with young children who have motor disabilities plan for their future as adults.
